Our shop was founded in 1948

My father, Edward Reiblitt, founded the store in 1948 with the name "Edwards Antikvariat" (Edvards Antique Books). This was of course after the war, and it was hard running a store for antique books as buying books, especially old ones, wasn't a priority for the population. Being stubborn, Edward and his wife Edvina packed the books and traveled by train to visit libraries and litterary societies all over Sweden and Norway to buy and sell books. As travelling salesman in old books, he built a wide network of contacts in the book business, from publishers to collectors and successfully grew the business.

Renamed to Thorvalds Antik & Kuriosa 1989

I took over in 1989, and not being as stubborn as my father, changed the direction to a wider set of products than books. We still have a large collection of books, but have added some furniture and signs that will be of interest to specialized groups. Of course, now that we have the Internet available to reach collectors with more narrow interests, it's easier to reach out. My Father's network (those that still are alive) are still helping me to find or put to market special items.
The web shop opened in May 2005. The new design was launched in January 2008, when the database was updated and re-organized by Harry. It's now much more accessible and attractive with an advanced search function and pictures of all items. We hope that you find it working well!
